Our vineyard is in Wivelsfield Green, East Sussex, England. It faces the South Downs and sits 80m above sea level. Our soil is Wealden Clay over sandstone. It is pruned to cane replacement, double guyot.
After one of the wettest autumns and winters on record, the early weeks of 2020 turned out to be quite mild and dry and there was little very cold weather however February ended wet.
A warmer and drier than average spring led to an early bud break. The warm weather continued into March and as the Covid pandemic gathered pace, the vines decided to come out for early bud-burst, around the 16th April. The good weather continued throughout April and May, although there was some frost damage in our lower block during early May.
The year continued dry and warm and flowering took place in good conditions, with a warmer than average August bringing ripening on quickly. With the drier than average spring and summer, plus the high temperatures in August, our vineyard was on track towards an early harvest. The harvest took place in clement dry conditions and was completed by 9th October.
Wine making process – gently whole bunch pressed and naturally settled for 36 hours, 100% barrel fermented in used oak barrique, malolactic fermentation with further four months of battonage.

A sparky, apple-fresh chardonnay that combines lemon sharpness with sweet fig, the green scent of peapods and a hint of delicate hawthorn flowers. chill to 10 -12 degrees C and you have the perfect accompaniment to any evening.
